Recreation Leader 1

Performs recreation work involving the supervising of participants. Performs a variety of manual, clerical tasks at a community daycare facility. Assist Sr. Recreation Leader, Assistant Site Supervisor, and Site Supervisor at a center, playground, camp, or daycare facility. Work requires an ability to supervise and engage children, complete specific tasks as assigned and communicate positively with the children, parents and community members.

Classified Salary : $16.74 per hour

Must be available to work at least two (2) days week for two (2) to three (3) hours per day.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists staff with recreation activities
  • Supervises participants during a variety of indoor and outdoor activities
  • Assists in conducting special recreation activities such as arts and crafts, dancing and drama.
  • Assists a Site Supervisor, Assistant Site Supervisor, and/or Senior Recreation Leader in conducting

    and supervising daycare or day camp activities. Assists with participant check-in and check-out

  • Observes necessary precautions to secure the safety of recreation participants and spectators

    and renders routine first aid in case of minor injury

  • Moves and sets-up equipment, cleans areas and facilities, and performs custodial work as

    required

  • Assists with light-cleaning of facilities; including vacuuming, sweeping, wiping counters/tables, etc.
  • Demonstrates age appropriate behavior and language
  • Attends all mandatory trainings as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Recreation Leader 1 does not have supervisory responsibilities over employees; however, they will supervise participants.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

No experience required.  Must be at least 16 years old at time of hire.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions and memos. Ability to write short correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, parents and community members and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have own transportation. Fingerprint and TB clearance are a condition of employment and must be obtained prior to start date.  Mandated Trainings required, but may be obtained within 30 days of hire date.  IF under 18 years of age a valid work permit is required.

 

Conditions of Employment

Upon offer of a position, LGS Recreation staff must obtain fingerprint and TB clearances. Any mandatory trainings required for the position must be completed within 15 days of employment.

Must have own transportation

Computer Skills

Basic computer skills.
