Swim Coach, Youth Program

Under the direction of the the Recreation Coordinator the Youth Swim Coach is responsible for running the daily operations of the Youth swim program. The position requires that the Youth coach coordinate and supervise assistant coaches, daily workouts, team travel to and from swim meets, and open water events, along with other activities and functions. The Youth coach will drive Aquatics Program growth and strive to retain existing members.

 

Start Date: April 12, 2025

Weekends 1:45pm to 6:15pm

Pay Rate: $36.05/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Includes the following but no limited to:

      • Assist the Coordinator with registering swimmers with USA Swimming or other affiliated swimming memberships
      • Assist the Coordinator with the hiring and supervision of assistant coaches
      • Assist Coordinator in creating a developmental youth swim program that includes program goals, budgeting, event planning, marketing, and communications and develop a seasonal plan for implementing the program
      • Attend scheduled meetings with a variety of stakeholders including Aquatic facility staff, coaches, and swimmers
      • Attend events, including those requiring travel
      • Assist Coordinator in making travel arrangements
      • Serve as contact for USA Swimming and other affiliated swimming memberships, attend meetings
      • Assist Coordinator with member swim clinics and other educational opportunities including skill development using media, demonstrations, etc
      • Host member swim clinics and other educational opportunities
      • Provide opportunities to involve the youth program in community service
      • Assist Coordinator to identify, recruit, and develop sponsorships
      • Organize a support team consisting of members and volunteers
      • Develop a seasonal swim program
      • Work with swimmers to set individual goals
      • Develop workouts in collaboration with the Coordinator and other coaching staff
      • Assist the Coordinator with scheduling Assistant Coaches
      • Promote and expand the team membership through team building and a positive attitude
      • Respond to inquiries from swimmers, parents, supervisor, stakeholders
      • Provide weekly updates to staff
      • Set-up and put away equipment as needed for training sessions
      • Other related duties and coaching responsibilities as needed

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coach supervises the assistant coaches and participants.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

Must be at least 18 years of age

Three years of professional swim coaching experience with Masters, high school, club, or college teams.

Personal competitive or fitness swimming experience

Extensive knowledge of swimming techniques and training methods

High School Diploma or equivalent

 

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

 

 

 

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

USA Swimming coach certifications, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid/CPR/AED-MUST POSSESS AT TIME OF HIRE.

Fingerprint and TB clearance are a condition of employment and must be obtained prior to start date.   

 

 

 

Conditions of Employment

Upon offer of a position, LGS Recreation staff must obtain fingerprint and TB clearances. Any mandatory trainings required for the position must be completed within 10 days of employment.

This is a short-term, seasonal assignment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is primarily performed in a swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed to stay in the pool for prolonged periods and to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment or children and adults who may require removal from the pool.  Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull equipment, and swim.  Vison and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions.  Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to swim; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors in a pool environment with wet and slippery conditions.  Exposure to variable weather conditions; may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at Aquatics facility.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
