Sailing Instructor
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the Sailing Instructor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising sailing classes and summer youth sailing camps. Sailing Instructor should have previous experience racing small boats or experience teaching youth sailing.

Hourly Rate: $25.00 (less than 3 years exp) to $35.00/hour (3 or more years exp)
Season: Weekends Mid March through June 8, Everyday June 9 through August 10, Weekends August 16 through Mid-October

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following but no limited to:
• Develop daily lesson plans making full and constructive use of scheduled program times, combining classroom and on-the-water lessons or activities
• Instruct a class of youth sailors with ability levels ranging from beginner to advanced
• Assist sailors in setting goals with a focus on progress and improvement
• Encourage participation and motivate sailors to a high level of commitment
• Physically assist sailors in launching, rigging and storing boats
• Drive an outboard motorboat to recover capsized or grounded vessels
• Facilitate minor repairs and daily maintenance as needed
• Perform seamanship tasks to include keeping boats, equipment, and storage facility clean and organized.
• Evaluate and document progress/improvement in sailing skills of class participant
• Maintain ongoing communication with participants, parents, staff and supervisor, demonstrating a sense of maturity and responsibility for the program
• Act as an appropriate role model and encourage the highest levels of sportsmanlike behavior.
• Take responsibility for ensuring a safe, organized, and educational environment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sailing Instructor does not have supervisory responsibilities over employees; however, they may be asked to supervise patrons.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience
At least 1-2 years prior coaching experience with youth sailors and past participation in youth or high school programs.
Language Skills
Ability to write short correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, parents and community members and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Fingerprint and TB clearance are a condition of employment and must be obtained prior to start date. Boating Safety/CPR/First Aid certification, preferred. Mandated Safety Trainings completed within 15 days of hire date.
Conditions of Employment
Upon offer of a position, LGS Recreation staff must obtain fingerprint and TB clearances. Any mandatory trainings required for the position must be completed within 15 days of employment.
Must have own transportation
Computer Skills
Basic computer skills.
