Swim Coach, Youth Program
Under the direction of the Youth Head Swim Coach and the Recreation Coordinator the Assistant Coach is responsible for the oversight of program-related daily operations and administrative duties, and providing high quality coaching.
Start Date: April 12, 2025
Weekends 1:45pm to 6:15pm
Pay Rate: $25.75/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following but no limited to:

- Provide assistance and information for all new athletes
- Coach youth swimmers
- Assist coaching staff in creating a developmental youth swim program
- Assist Head Coach in coaching and coordinating structured workouts for the team
- Promote and expand the team membership through team building and a positive attitude
- Attend and assist at all scheduled Youth Swim Team competitions, events, and activities
- Attend all team and coaches’ meetings
- Teach, instruct, and correct swimmers at every opportunity
- Actively promote pool and fitness competitions
- Assist the Coach with overseeing and managing registration fees for all athletes and programs
- Provide ongoing communication to athletes, as appropriate, regarding updates in practice and competition schedules
- Set-up and put away equipment as needed for training sessions
- Other related duties and coaching responsibilities as needed

The Assistant Coach supervises participants.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
Two or more years’ experience or background in competitive coaching and swimming
High School Diploma or equivalent
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
USA Swimming coach certifications, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid/CPR/AED-MUST POSSESS AT TIME OF HIRE.
Fingerprint and TB clearance are a condition of employment and must be obtained prior to start date.
Conditions of Employment
Upon offer of a position, LGS Recreation staff must obtain fingerprint and TB clearances. Any mandatory trainings required for the position must be completed within 10 days of employment.
This is a short-term, seasonal assignment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is primarily performed in a swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed to stay in the pool for prolonged periods and to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment or children and adults who may require removal from the pool. Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull equipment, and swim. Vison and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions. Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to swim; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors in a pool environment with wet and slippery conditions. Exposure to variable weather conditions; may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at Aquatics facility.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
